How to Remove a Video Background Online

Choose the mode for the source you have

Portrait mode separates people from an ordinary background. It is the starting point for a presenter filmed at home, a lesson recorded in an office, or a talking-head clip without a green screen. It targets people; it is not a general product-selection tool.

Green-screen mode removes a green or plain-color backdrop from the foreground, including objects. Use it for a product on a green set or a presenter recorded in a studio. Keep the backdrop evenly lit and avoid clothes or products with colors close to it. Neither mode offers a brush for manually correcting the mask.

Choose transparency before you start

WebM and MOV can carry the transparent area around the cutout. WebM is useful in compatible browsers and editors; MOV is an editing-oriented option whose playback depends on codec support. A browser that cannot preview your MOV does not necessarily mean the download is broken. Open it in an editor that supports the file and place a colored layer underneath to check the alpha channel.

MP4 uses a solid background. Choose green, white or black before processing. It does not preserve transparency, so an MP4 export is not interchangeable with an alpha video. To use a custom scene, export a transparent format and composite it in your editor; uploading a replacement background is not part of this tool.

Give the tool clear edges to work with

Use the best available original. Heavy compression, motion blur and fine hair can make the boundary uncertain. On a green-screen set, give the subject some space from the backdrop, light the background evenly and watch for green reflections on glossy objects. Keep the whole subject inside the frame and leave room around moving hands.

The tool accepts MP4, FLV, TS, AVI, MOV, WMV and MKV files up to 10 GB and 3840 × 2160, including the corresponding portrait dimensions. Inputs must be SDR. There is no fixed duration cap, but the output must fit within 2 GB. For a first run, choose a short representative section containing the motion and difficult edges that matter to you.

Review the quote for your actual video

Credits depend on the measured duration and the resolution tier of the shorter side. Both cutout modes and all three formats use the same rate. Check the current pricing rules and the estimate for your file before starting; portrait and landscape videos use the same short-side rule.

Review the cutout in motion

Play the complete result, then pause on the hardest moments. A tidy frame at the beginning does not prove that the entire mask is stable. Look closely at hair, fingers, gaps between limbs, fast turns, shadows and any foreground color that resembles the background.

Keep a local copy of the result and your source. Originals remain accessible for 24 hours after upload completes; results remain accessible for 7 days after completion.
